Complementary therapies
My name is Sophia, I am a qualified nurse and certified as an accredited Reflexologist and Reiki practitioner (Level 2).
I was introduced to Reiki and Drum Reiki when going through a stressful time in my life. I really benefited from the treatment sessions; feeling a sense of balance and peace within. I later received Reflexology when I was completing a Degree; which helped with my symptoms of stress and anxiety. I was so intrigued by these holistic complementary therapies, I decided to train as a practitioner in 2018. COVID delayed the completion of the accredit training, however I continued to give treatments to family, friends and even pets. I am now fully qualified and a member of the Professional Standards for Reiki and Reflexology.
At Holistic Mind and Body, I offer a range of holistic therapies to help you achieve balance and deep relaxation to support your wellbeing.
I am dedicated to providing a safe relaxing space for you to deeply unwind and immerse yourself in some much needed YOU time.
Deep relaxation, is essential for overall wellbeing because it helps the body and mind recover from the stresses of daily life. When you experience deep relaxation, you activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the "rest and digest" system), which counteracts the body's natural "fight or flight" response to stress.
Regularly engaging in deep relaxation practices, such as Reflexology and Reiki/DrumReiki, along with positive lifestyle choices, can bring a host of physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Such as reducing stress, promoting better sleep, improving mental clarity and focus, boosting the immune system, lowering blood pressure, offer some relief from chronic pain, enhancing emotional health, improving digestion and may help to reduce fatigue.

Reflexology is an ancient practice originating from Egypt, China and India. Reflexology was introduced to the West in the early 1900s. It was known as, Zone therapy, relating to the connection between reflex areas on the feet and hands and various organs and areas of the body within the same zone.
Reflexology is widely used for relaxation and stress relief; with scientific evidence reporting many people feeling more relaxed, with reduced pain and improved wellbeing after a session.
Here are some of the potential benefits of reflexology:
1. Stress Reduction and Relaxation
Reflexology is widely used to reduce stress and promote relaxation. The pressure applied to specific reflex points is thought to help trigger the body's relaxation response, lowering stress hormones like cortisol. Many people report feeling deeply relaxed after a session, helping them manage anxiety and stress.
2. Improved Circulation By stimulating specific reflex points, reflexology may help improve circulation.
3. Pain Relief
Reflexology has been used as a complementary therapy for pain management, especially for chronic conditions like arthritis, back pain, headaches, or migraines. The pressure points on the feet, hands, and ears are believed to help alleviate pain by promoting the release of endorphins (the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals).
4. Improved Sleep
Many people find that reflexology helps them sleep better, likely due to its calming effects on the nervous system. By reducing stress and anxiety, reflexology can promote more restful sleep, particularly for those who struggle with insomnia or disrupted sleep patterns.
5. Boosted Immune System
Reflexology is thought to stimulate the body's natural healing processes and strengthen the immune system.
6. Enhanced Mood and Emotional Balance
Reflexology may help improve emotional well-being by promoting relaxation and reducing tension. It has been used to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders, often by promoting a sense of calm and balance in the body and mind.
7. Digestive Health
Reflexology may help with digestive issues by stimulating points on the feet that correspond to the digestive organs. Some people use reflexology to address problems such as constipation, bloating, or indigestion, as it’s believed to support healthy digestion and relieve discomfort.
8. Detoxification
Reflexology may help with the body’s natural detoxification processes by improving circulation and stimulating the lymphatic system.
9. Hormonal Balance
Reflexology has been used to support hormonal balance, particularly in women. It is thought to help with menstrual irregularities, menopause symptoms, and other hormonal-related issues by stimulating the endocrine system.
10. Increased Energy Levels
Reflexology is believed to help improve energy levels, leaving clients feeling more refreshed and invigorated after a session.
11. Enhanced Flexibility and Mobility
Reflexology may help improve joint flexibility and mobility, especially in individuals living with arthritis or other joint-related issues.
12. Support for Chronic Conditions
Some people with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, or multiple sclerosis, use reflexology as a complementary therapy to help manage symptoms like pain, fatigue, or circulation issues. While reflexology is not a cure, it may improve the quality of life by reducing discomfort and promoting relaxation.
